Our rose water is made using traditional deg bhapka process . Made by local artisans from Kannuaj itself.
The ancient steam-distillation (deg-bhapka) method is used for our Pure Rose Water. Approximately 400 rose petals are used to make a 200ml bottle of rose water. There is a manual selection process of roses. Rose petals are first hand-picked by local people before sunrise and sent to the distilleries to be used the very same day.
Next step is heating of the copper vessel (deg) – this is a process in which rose petals are put into large degs, or copper pots and a small amount of cold water is added to it. A fire is lit below this container which causes the distilled water to convert into steam.
Next step is the collection of steam in bhapka :- steam passes through the rose petals, and the roses slowly release their essence.
This steam then whirls and passes through copper pipes to another compartment that is continuously cooled by other channels of cold water. This area is completely sealed, and the cold water which helps the process of condensation of rose water vapors, which are then collected at the bottom in another container known as bhapka.
Final step is rose water gets emptied out and lastly filtered. This entire process is done at local artisan facility at Kannauj. They are experts and this knowledge of perfume making is handed down from families by tradition and they closely monitor this entire process , very skilled people ensure that the delicate volatile aromas of the rose is not destroyed during its manufacturing. End result is absolutely precious steam distilled rose water.
Note : As we follow a hand filtration method, Rose Water may contain some natural ‘sediment’ making it appear cloudy. This is nothing, but the natural rose petal compounds that settle out of the distillate water. It does not indicate any deterioration in the quality.
